February 10th
The Oshawa Branch of The Ontario Poetry Society meeting was hosted at
the Oshawa Seniors Centre with 6 attendees.
The enthusiasm around the table was wonderful and the interchange
between readings was encouraging and appreciated by everyone.
At the previous meeting (January), Haiku poetry was briefly covered
and the group were invited to bring some Haiku poetry in February to
share.
The range of Haiku poetry was astounding and well received. The
different personalities and backgrounds give our group varied and
interesting image-provoking works.
Prior to the break, there was a discussion about the TANKA style poem
and description sheets were handed out. Each one was asked to write at
least one TANKA for
the next meeting.
For the break, Tony surprised the group by bringing an Oriental 'flavour'
in the form
of Sushi and Saki. Thank YOU, Tony!! and to those who also brought
'nibbles' !
After the break, more poetry readings stimulated conversation. All too
soon, it was over for another month.
Thank you goes out to the helpers in getting the chairs / tables back.

The Federation of Poets
Now In Durham Region |
Poetry is in full motion in
Durham Region!
Last January The Ontario Poetry Society was launch and established
with their inaugural meeting held at the Oshawa Senior Centre.
Now, The Canadian Federation of Poets is in organizing to begin a
federation in the
Durham Region.
Stella Ducker, Chair of the Durham Region Federation of Poets extends
a personal invitation to everyone to check it out for themselves and
become part of this exciting international group of poets. More info
will be coming.
Canadian Federation of Poets is dedicated to uniting people and
organizations around the world in the global promotion of poets and
poetry .

A Federation is a local group that is run by members of the Canadian
Federation of Poetry. It's a great way to meet other poets, share and
learn. Meetings are held once a month. More info on this will be
forthcoming. At these events we read poetry and have encouraging
discussions.
