Haiku

The dog ran away
The cat jumped in the air
The boy had come home

Planes drop endless fire
Its Shock and Awe in the news
Guernica again

      In Bed With An Unwashed Woman
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My flight was delayed
Because of the storm.
Five days away
And late coming home.
I finally arrived
To a frozen, still town.
The water mains broken,
The power lines down.
The ice was so thick that
The whole town was crippled.
A cab took me home
But the fare it was tripled.
When I finally arrived
To uncover my fate
I discovered my home
In an emergency state.
My wife was amazing,
The things she had done
To ensure our survival
Beneath the cold winter sun.
A battery powered hot plate,
Bottled water was drank.
She drained the water heater
To refill the toilet tank.
A mattress on the floor
In front of the hearth.
She chopped plenty of wood,
A week or so’s worth.
When we got under the covers
And she snuggled up close,
My eyes became watery
I had to hold my nose!
She just gave me a look,
Her eyes opened wide.
And said, “If you don’t like it honey
You can go sleep outside!”
“Don’t like what?” I answered
As I snuggled up again.
And that’s how I wound up
In bed with an unwashed woman.
